About Zotero

Zotero (pronounced "zoh-TAIR-oh") is a browser tool that collects, manages, and cites research sources. It's easy to use, lives in your web browser where you do your work, and, best of all, it's free. Zotero allows you to attach PDFs, notes and images to your citations, organize them into collections for different projects, and create bibliographies using Word, OpenOffice, or Google Docs.

Since it's a browser plugin, it automatically updates itself periodically to work with new online sources and new bibliographic styles.

Using This Guide

This guide walks you through the installation, configuration, and use of Zotero, a handy and free reference management tool. To navigate through this guide, use the tabs along the side. It was designed as a self-guided tutorial with each topic supported by detailed videos and instructions.

Zotero Quick Start Guide

See also this great guide published by the Zotero developers themselves, which is also available as a PDF.

🆕 This guide was built using Zotero 6.0. Zotero recently released a 7.0 version. Read this blog post to learn about the upgraded features that 7.0 has to offer. Most of the changes are minor and the core functionality remains the same between versions.
