The primary goals of library exhibits and displays are to highlight resources, services, or collections of Carmichael Library; to enhance the educational mission of the University of Montevallo (UM); and to enrich the cultural and intellectual life of UM and the surrounding community. Display locations may include all public areas of Carmichael Library as well as the library website.
Non-library groups or individuals may request the use of display areas when working in collaboration with the library. Space will be held on a first come, first served basis. Exhibitors will assume all responsibility for the exhibit, including set-up, take-down, accompanying descriptions and signage content. If an opening or event is requested for the exhibition, permission must be granted by the Library Administration. Exhibits will be displayed for a specified time. Carmichael Library will not be liable for any damage or loss.
Carmichael Library supports the American Library Association’s Intellectual Freedom Principles for Academic Libraries, which state that “Freedom of information and of creative expression should be reflected in library exhibits and in all relevant library policy." The library does not necessarily endorse the beliefs or viewpoints set forth in library exhibits/displays. All content must comply with existing state, federal, and local laws, including those on obscenity, libel, defamation of character and invasion of privacy. All exhibits/displays must meet with the approval of Library Administration.
